  • Hi Jardi

I had an epidural with the second surgery. Unfortunately I got an infection in my spinal cord and had to have it removed at around day 3. The pain was horrendous and I needed two shots of morphine to stop me screaming. After that all was fine with IV pain meds so don’t worry if you need to go that route rather than have the epidural. The…[Read more]

    Hi Sharon

Glad you found us. I was worried about my daughter too. My grandmother died young from breast cancer and my mother was recently diagnosed with it post 70 years. I had testing done which was a huge relief. No mutations at all. My husband’s side of the family are all healthy as oxes so it looks like any risks to my kids will be the luck…[Read more]

    Hi Angela

I was lucky enough to have my cancer caught early too. I was diagnosed in July 2014 and recently my oncologist has moved me down to yearly appointments as things are going so well. If it weren’t for the scars and changed world view I could almost forget I have had cancer.

I am so glad yours was caught early and you have a good…[Read more]

Naveen Chetty was my doctor 🙂 I left Qld nearly two years ago and he referred me to a colleague of his here in Tasmania that I still see for follow up (3 years post surgery now with no dramas).  Ask him all the questions you want, he always invites you to.

Ah Patience – still haven’t learned that skill but getting better at distracting myself 😉

    Hi Sharon

My story was similar to yours. I had had years of a thickened lining and heavy blood loss and was being monitored in case I developed uterine cancer. During a routine ultrasound for that, a 7cm tumour was found on my left ovary.

One thing I have learned since is that best practice treatment would be for your first surgery to be done by…[Read more]

  • Hi Jmargaret, the doctors will stage it properly for you.

How are you holding yourself together as you wait for Monday/Tuesday’s call? We are here if you need to talk about how you are feeling.

I had my debaulking surgery at the Mater in Brisbane in 2014, is that where you are?

    Hi Sandra

Has your family had genetic testing done?

My mum has had the all clear now so she is on the monitoring program same as me.

I added the photo when I registered but I think you can add one anytime.

    Hi Sirin

I found aqua aerobics really helpful, it built my core and all my other muscles too without putting too much strain on them – not to say it wasn’t painful at times – I found muscles I had forgotten about 😉

Wow straight into the deep end. This is a great forum to come to, lots of people here who have trod a similar path. Do you have plenty of support around you?

  • Neigh, it is scary and overwhelming and you sound tired. Please know you do contribute, there are people here who care and who have been waiting to hear back from you – myself included.

When you faced this last time, what did you draw on to get you through it?

One day at a time, one treatment at a time and reach out to all the people who care…[Read more]

    Thanks Karen

My understanding was that they had tested for everything that is currently ‘testable’ genetically. I will talk to my doctor again though.

My mum has her third breast surgery in about as many weeks on Monday, in some ways its harder to be the one watching that going through it this time.

    Hi Nikki

    Do you mean the Syndromes?

The testing Dr from Melbourne said I was negative for the BRACA mutations and any of the known syndromes. They are learning more all the time so maybe one day something will show up.

    Thanks for your reply.

    🙂

    Hi all

I’ve been processing a bit lately. I’m at the 3 year anniversary of when OC was suspected for me (3 years post treatment in July). All is going well and I’ve had the BRACA testing done and I don’t have the mutation. My check ups are now 6 monthly with no blood tests since my CA125 never elevated even when I had cancer.

    I’m feeling a tad…[Read more]
