Ovarian Cancer Australia (OCA) is proud to announce its partnership with Hairhouse Australia, launching their round-up purchase program, with additional initiatives to be announced, all aimed atmpowering women and their loved ones affected by this cause.

Ovarian cancer, the deadliest female cancer in Australia with a 49% five-year survival rate, lacks adequate funding. Hairhouse and OCA aim to raise awareness, support women and families facing ovarian cancer, and generate funding for essential programs, covering care, resources, treatment and research.

Ovarian cancer still remains a silent killer in Australia, with approximately 1,800 diagnoses this year. The absence of an early detection test and vague symptoms like abdominal bloating, cramps, and bowel habit changes make early diagnosis even more difficult. Hence, it's vital to raise awareness and encourage women to be mindful of their bodies, consulting their GP for guidance.

Michael O’Connell, Hairhouse’s Group Chief Operating Officer, emphasised, "Cancer, in all of its forms, is a disease extremely close to our hearts at Hairhouse, having lost our beloved Co-Founder Joseph Lattouf to a brain tumour in 2020. As a business with a predominantly female customer base that prides itself on empowering women to look and feel their best every day, we are proud to partner with Ovarian Cancer Australia in continuing to raise awareness and funding to support women facing ovarian cancer."

Sharing the vision that no woman facing ovarian cancer should walk alone, Hairhouse, with its robust network of over 100 stores and being Australia’s largest employer of qualified hair stylists, joins in supporting OCA’s 22-year legacy of assisting women and their families through their Teal Support Program and advocacy initiatives.

Bridget Bradhurst, Chief of Support & Advocacy Programs at Ovarian Cancer Australia, notes, "Over 1,000 women with ovarian cancer have been connected to their own ovarian cancer nurse specialist through our Teal Support Program. This program has been set up in a way that can support all Australians, no matter where they live."

With its range of support resources and services, OCA has supported over 6,000 women and their loved ones in the last 5 years and successfully advocated for large-scale funding with the ongoing goal of making ovarian cancer a national priority by leading the National Action Plan.

Together, they aim to empower and build confidence in women navigating hair loss. Providing expert hair advice and product recommendations as they adapt to changes in their hair due to cancer treatment will be a focal point in their partnership. Hair loss and alterations in hair colour and texture are significant milestones in many women's cancer stories, often affecting their self-esteem and identity.

Destinee, a 23-year-old woman living with ovarian cancer, shared her experience, stating, "[Hair loss] reshaped my identity and affected how I connect with the world—from my sense of self to how I interact with others—as my hair plays a significant role in my mental health and confidence."

Hairhouse customers can now round up their purchases to the nearest dollar, supporting OCA. This partnership represents a significant step in the fight against ovarian cancer, with more initiatives to come, showcasing their dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by this disease - ensuring no one walks alone.
